Metalworking Fluids: Why a Near-Equivalent Is Not Always Enough
Metalworking fluids are more application-sensitive than most other lubricant categories. The performance of a cutting fluid depends not just on the product but on the dilution ratio, the water quality used for dilution, the material being machined, tool geometry, cutting speed, and biocide management. A product that works excellently in one workshop may perform differently in another using different water or on a different material.
Banesto's Cutting Oil (Neat) and Soluble Cutting Oil are suitable near equivalents for a broad range of general turning, drilling, milling and grinding applications on ferrous materials. However, for precision machining of aluminium, titanium, stainless or copper alloys, we recommend requesting a product trial and consultation before switching. These materials have specific pH, chlorine-free and corrosion inhibition requirements that vary by product formulation.
Portfolio Gaps: Semi-Synthetic and Full Synthetic
Banesto's current standard metalworking range covers neat and soluble (emulsifiable) oils. Semi-synthetic and full synthetic metalworking fluids — which are increasingly preferred for their low misting, long sump life and good machine cleanliness — are not currently in Banesto's standard catalogue. If your application requires these fluid types, contact Banesto's technical team. Custom development or third-party sourcing arrangements may be available for volume customers.
